DVD News - TV-series on DVD

When your favorite TV series come out on DVD and you decide to buy them, you’d expect to get the complete series, of course. “Seinfeld,” for example, is still being released new and popular DVD-boxes. So we were excited when the first seasons of “The Golden Girls” were released. However, after season 3 they all of a sudden stopped. All seven seasons of “The Golden Girls” have been available on DVD in America for years already and they’re easily ordered from Amazon.com.

Pink Point - Is Nothing What It Seems Anymore?

To The Point - True stories from Pink Point, the gay and lesbian info kiosk at the Homomonument. See http://www.pinkpoint.org

Now that I’m already in my seventh season of volunteering at Pink Point I’ve got a nice collection of anecdotes for this column. I often return home from a day’s work at “the Point” with stories of which you later think: that can’t have really happened. Is my mind playing tricks on me or did fate really bring these people onto my path?

Gay Arabs Begin To Organize In Israel

A rare gathering of openly gay Arab activists will be held in Israel shortly, drawing the ire of religious conservatives. Headlined “Home and Exile,” the March 28 meeting is meant to spark discussion of homosexuality among Israel’s one million Arab citizens. The conference is being organized by Aswat, an Arab lesbian group based in Haifa. Around 100 to 150 people are expected to show up. With homosexuality a taboo topic in much of the Arab world, the meeting is important simply because it is taking place.

Time For The NOW Man - The Second Passion Of Photographer Johan van Breukelen

Johan van Breukelen is known in gay Holland as a photographer and artist, and his photos are now on display in Mr. B, the leather and rubber shop on the Warmoesstraat. Van Breukelen’s erotic photos appear to be more painting than photo. He calls his photos “painting with light” and he considers himself more of a visual artist than a photographer. In 1995 he also was joint founder of the Men’s Work Foundation (Stichting Mannenwerk), which gives (gay) men the chance to meet each other in a different, more intense, setting than is usual in the pubs and clubs. A conversation about the unfamiliar side of this respected (men’s) photographer.

Michael Jackson Upset By Gay Porn Connection

Michael Jackson tried to fire the man he hired to produce a benefit recording for victims of the 2001 terrorist attacks after learning the associate once directed gay porn movies, according to the entertainer’s former lawyer. Zia Modabber testified early July that he broke the news to Jackson about F. Marc Schaffel’s background, showing him a video of Schaffel at an adult film shoot. “I think he didn’t want to believe it was real or true,” said Modabber. “He appeared angry, upset.”

Travel - Gay in Turkey

Turkey lies in between Europe and Asia. The Aya Sophia and the Blue Mosque in Istanbul face each other as symbols of Christianity and the Islam. The Americans think the European Union should accept Turkey as a member state because it’s a bridge between Europe and Asia, East and West, the Islam and Christianity. In Europe we haven’t made up our minds yet. The Turkish gays and lesbians welcome a possible membership of the EU because they see it as a chance to further their struggle, the European gays and lesbians are wary of new member states like Poland, Rumania and Turkey because they could shift the balance within Europe towards conservative moral convictions.

DVD News - O Fantasmo Obsessed By A Motor Cyclist

It may be shocking for some but this is a very erotically charged movie. The breakthrough for director Rodrigues? He’s made two documentaries and two short movies before. “O Fantasma” is a film about primal lust. Sergio (a beautiful character by Ricardo Meneses) is a garbage collector in Lisbon. His great (and only) friend is his dog Lorde. There’s a female colleague who’s interested in him (and who wouldn’t be), but Sergio prefers anonymous sex adventures with men (for example at a public toilet and a rape of a tied up police officer). Until he gets obsessed by a motor cyclist.

Homostudies - Bestiality and Homosexuality in Sweden

The major accomplishment of Jens Rydström in his study on Swedish bestiality and homosexuality is the confirmation of Michel Foucault’s theory of the change from a legal system of forbidden acts to a medical system of marginalized identities in the first volume of Histoire de la Sexualité (1976). Swedish courts routinely condemned “unnatural fornication” (as male and female homosexuality and bestiality were called since the law reform of 1864) as a criminal offense till the early twentieth century.

Pink Point Chit Chat

The last month was a busy one at the Homomonument. Not only were there two huge parties (the annual Roze Wester Festival on Queen's Day and Liberation Day) and a Remembrance Ceremony at the monument, but also a spontaneous demonstration on April 24th. The demonstation was a protest against the book "The Way of the Moslim" published in 1964 and found recently in the El-Tawheed Mosque in Amsterdam West, in which a passage called on Moslims to "throw homosexuals head down from the highest building and then stone them." Following are quotes from five of the main speakers on that day

How gay-minded is the Amsterdam Tourist Board?

How the Amsterdam Tourist Board (formally and nationally known as VVV) completely fails when it comes to providing gay information, which is completely free available in large amounts; but instead they provide gay tourists with a map which costs two euros which contains no gay information at all, and next to this they also act up as moralists. The hidden pleasures of Geneva

In memories of days gone by Geneva, at the gorgeous Lac Léman (or, as we foreigners call it, the Lake of Geneva), lingers on as an impressive city, very wealthy, smart, but also a bit too tidy. A world-class city due also to the international organisations which of old have favoured the neutral politic status of the Swiss nation. But also a city that never managed to show similar grandeur in its nightlife. Too much capital has put the breaks on developing a bustling nightlife, it seems. But everything changes, even Geneva.
