The Male Universe of Subversive Genius Jean Boullet
|
Mid-May, the opening of the exhibition “Jean Boullet: Passion et Subversion” took place at gallery Au Bonheur du Jour in Paris, which shows paintings, drawings, books and letters by this French artist. His work is very homo-erotic, and a catalogue of 320 pages was published on the occasion of the exhibition. The exhibition is open till July 20.

Abolition of ‘Single Fact Construction’ Crucial for LGBT's at School

According to COC Netherlands, it is 'crucial' for lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders (LGBT's) at faith schools that the Dutch Lower House wants to end the so-called single fact construction. This is the response of the COC, which has been fighting for the abolition of this section of the law for years, on the private member's bill by D66, VVD, PvdA, SP, and GroenLinks.

Start of Pink Police Protection Point in Rotterdam

The police in Rotterdam and Greater Rotterdam now also have a Pink Police Protection Point (Meldpunt Roze in Blauw). People who feel discriminated against, or are threatened or abused because of their sexual or gender orientation, can report this at the Pink Police Protection Point of the Rotterdam police.

On the sixth of May, it was 80 years ago that the Nazi's ransacked the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft (Institute for Sexology) of dr. Magnus Hirschfeld and burned his books. This destroyed the life's work of one of the founders of the modern LGBT movement.

Christian Education Centre Against Abolition Bill Single Fact Construction

The Board of Directors is against the member's bill to remove the single fact construction from the Dutch Equal Treatment Act. The umbrella organisation for Christian schools is of the opinion that schools should retain the possibility to refuse openly gay teachers.

Expo News: QueeRussia: the Hidden (P)art
|
The exhibition “QueeRussia: the Hidden (P)art” was opened on May 19 at gallery MooiMan in Groningen. The exhibition can be seen as the socially critical exhibition of the official cultural program of the Netherlands-Russia bilateral year 2013. “QueeRussia” is not only special because of the support of the Foreign Office, but mostly because the Russian partners who were appointed to give their consent, cleared the exhibition as part of the Netherlands-Russia year.
