Dear Northern Neighbors,
Were you planning to all come to the Brussels Gay Pride this year? I wish you luck because there might not be a Pride Parade through the center of town at all. The organizers are going backwards upside down. Some websites even broadcasted the message that the organizing committee is financially bankrupt.

Peter Cincotti - East of Angel Town (Warner Music) ***
At the moment Peter Cincotti (born 1983 in New York City) isn’t very well-known in our country, but that will probably change soon because of his album “East of Angel Town.” It is already the fourth album of this 24-year-old musical virtuoso.
The first time I had something to do with Peter Cincotti was a few years ago in a small pub in Amsterdam. Towards closing time they always played markedly good jazz music and upon inquiry it appeared to be by one Peter Cincotti.

It’s a cold Sunday morning. I’ve just put all the postcard racks outside and it feels like my fingers will freeze off at any moment. Fortunately I can quickly warm up with the radiator, which is snuggled under my stool. It may be winter outside but my ass is warm, sweetie.

Easier to file an anonymous report of a Hate Crime to the police

From the 20th of March victims of homophobic or racist violence in Nijmegen and Amsterdam, who wish to remain anonymous, will be met with more understanding while filing their report to the police. The departements of Amsterdam-Amstelland and Gelderland will distribute leaflets and forms to bars, saunas, libraries and other public places. From the 20th of March it’s also possible to log in online via http://www.hatecrimes.nl

“It’s full steam ahead with social acceptance of homosexuality in Amsterdam...”
|
At the assembly of four front-running cities with Minister Plasterk (Emancipation) the presence of Her Royal Highness Princess Máxima was evidence of the largest symbolic move towards the beginning of the third phase of gay emancipation: social acceptance of homosexuality. After taking it out of criminal jurisdiction and eradicating discrimination in legislation - introducing gay marriage being the most recent and most symbolic move - it is now time to work on total social acceptance. The four front-running big cities promised to persevere in their action towards gay emancipation by signing this new declaration.

Queens Day - Drag Queen Olympics Again Awarded to Amsterdam
|
At a meeting lasting into the early hours of this morning, The International Drag Queen Olympics Committee finally decided by a margin of 5 to 4 to again award the Drag Olympics to the City of Amsterdam.
After last minute personal lobbying by Amsterdam Mayor Job Cohen and local drag celebrity Ms Jennifer Hopelezz, the Russian delegation decided to change its vote from Bangkok to Amsterdam, enough to clinch victory for Holland.

Dear Northern Neighbors,
This week I saw some fragments from the well-known Dutch television show “Boer zoekt vrouw” (Farmer Looking For A Wife), which is probably not unfamiliar to you, unless you’re living on a completely different celestial body. We in Flanders also know this program, in which anchor woman Dina Tersago as a real hoyden with unbelievable enthusiasm tries to get a farmer off the streets, not an easy task to be sure.

It’s a fact that men’s fashion has grown explosively in size over the past couple of years. “The male consumer has so much to choose from nowadays that he’s willing to pay much more for quality. He prefers large Italians labels,” states Raffaello Napoleone (head of the Pitti Uomo men’s fair in Florence).
