Obituary: Fabiola, Living Work of Art, Now Dead

Not really unexpected, Fabiola died, sixty-six years old, on Sunday morning, the 27th of January at the Hospice Sint Jacob in Amsterdam. Fabiola was the stage name of Peter Alexander van Linden (Weilheim, Germany, May 26, 1946 - Amsterdam, January 27, 2013), who has been a well-known personality in Amsterdam since the sixties as performance artist and “living work of art.”

Five years jail for ‘gay-healer’

In Canada Dr. Aubrey Levin, who called himself the ‘gay-healer’, was found guilty of sexually abusing his male clients and was sentenced to five years in jail. The prosecution had asked for eight years but the judge took into account with the South African 74-year old defendant’s age and health problems.

The German Soccer Association, the Deutscher Fussball-Bund (DFB), has set up a working group in order to prepare and support soccer clubs in the event of players coming out of the closet. The working group has representatives of the DFB, external experts and a former professional soccer player who is gay.

Dutch Author Louis Couperus and Classical Antiquity

On the 7th of March the Dutch National Museum of Antiquities in Leiden opened an exhibition about Louis Couperus and the classical antiquity. Couperus (1863-1923) lived in Rome and Florence for years and felt, as he said himself, like a “reincarnated Roman from the days of the Empire.”

On Thursday the 7th of March the pilot of Queer Amsterdam – the first Dutch drama series about queers – will premiere in the Pathé Tuschinski cinema. This special project was initiated by four young film makers and created completely independently with the motto ‘Broke, queer and creative – we produce our own drama.’
