A Comic Book As Weapon In The Fight Against Bullying And Suicide

Since a few years there is, especially in the United States, increasing dismay over gay teenagers committing suicide because they can’t take the horrible teasing and bullying anymore. The case of the eighteen-year old Tyler Clementi in particular appears to have opened many people’s eyes. Before he took off for university Tyler came out to his parents. His father is said to have been ok with it and supported him completely, while his mother basically rejected his sexual orientation.

Lad's Love - Troubled Souls And Their Chaste Longing For The Beautiful, Untoucha

It’s no longer news that the Victorians were not really so Victorian after all. The image of a uniformly prudish and morally straight-jacketed nation, ruled over by a sense of Imperial fair-play that trickled down from the black lace trimming on Victoria’s petticoats has been well and truly debunked. We know about the dirty books, the prostitution, the pornographic photos, and the excitable flush that might come to a retired Colonel’s face as he remembered his schooldays and the swish of the birch cane.

STD clinics will aim mainly at higher-risk groups

The state institute for public health and the environment (Rijksinstituut voor Volksgezondheid & Milieu) publicized in newspaper Metro that the Dutch STD clinics will select their clients more carefully this year. There are 26 STD clinics where clients are tested freely and anonymously. They are suffering from their own success: more and more people use them.

After we’d found our cabin we decided to kick off our trip with a beer in one of the many bars on board. This is where we saw drunken Norwegians for the first time. Because alcohol is so expensive at home in Norway they don’t know when to stop drinking. The men were shouting at each other and leaning on their drunken women. We decided to sit on deck.

In the course of researching her new book, “Relocations: Queer Suburban Imaginaries” (New York University Press), Professor Karen Tongson found that the down-on-their-luck suburbs are now attracting gay couples and immigrants who are leaving their own mark on the region’s cookie-cutter image.
