Out & About: Scandal, Deadly Fake Nails, and a Mister Honey Bear

Olympian Adam Rippon Launches Campaign for Queer Youth

GLAAD, the world’s largest GLBTQ media advocacy organization, announced that Olympic medalist Adam Rippon launched a fundraising campaign to support GLAAD’s culture-changing GLBTQ youth programs. The announcement was made during Rippon’s appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Ellen surprised him with a check for $10,000 to kick off his campaign.

Make Asylum for Cuban LGBTIs Easier

In a letter to Mark Harbers of Asylum (VVD), COC Netherlands calls on the state secretary to make getting asylum in the Netherlands easier for LGBTIs from Cuba. According to the gay interest organization, the situation of LGBTIs in the Central American country is still very poor.

Approach Toward Violence Needs to Change and Improve

The approach toward violence against LGBTIs needs to change and improve – It is time for a turnaround. This was the appeal made by Tanje Ineke, COC president of the Dutch gay interest organisation, in a discussion with the Dutch Minister for Justice and Security, Grapperhaus. The COC president was cautiously optimistic about the outcome.

Courtesy of its humanist culture and modern legislation, Brussels, the gay friendly capital of 500 million Europeans, stands out even more in the European landscape. Fourteen years ago, Belgium signed the law legalizing same-sex marriage, thereby becoming, after the Netherlands, the second country in the world to acknowledge equal rights for the gay and lesbian community.

Explosion Hazard! Homosexuals in the Resistance

On July 1, 1943, an announcement of the Höhere SS- und Polizeiführer appeared in the Dutch newspapers: “12 death sentences have been executed due to an explosive attack on the Municipal Register in Amsterdam. The leadership of this terrorist gang was closely connected to artists’ and student circles. Five perpetrators had Jewish blood. Two of the main perpetrators were homosexual.”
