Dear Neighbors to the North, Discrimination and homophobia have become second nature for gay people. Statistically, it is impossible for any gay man or lesbian not ever having to deal with discrimination and homophobia. Discrimination is often subtle, but homophobia can result in physical violence.
The ministry of Education will organise education on gay rights in shelters for asylum seekers. Minister Jet Bussemaker announced this. The city of Amsterdam has taken the initiative to educate asylum seekers on gay and women's rights already.
High-risk HPV infections in the anus are very common among homosexual men, and being HIV positive is a risk factor for high-risk HPV infections. This is the result of a study conducted in Amsterdam by the Health Authority GGD Amsterdam and the Medisch Centrum Jan van Goyen in a group of 750 homosexual men. HPV is the Human Papilloma Virus, which can cause cancer in the anus, the womb and the penis.
Delano Felter, the leader of the local Amsterdam party Republikeinse Moderne Partij, was fined EUR 1000 after making anti-gay statements in 2010. Of the fine, EUR 500 is conditional, as long as he does not express his opinions about his homosexual fellow man. At the time, Mr Felter was campaigning against the dominance of the homosexual, according to local TV station AT5.
