Sade, the First Radical Queer

William F. Edmiston’s “Sade, Queer Theorist” is a marvelous book. Notwithstanding a twenty-year long history of queer theory with Sade being the “queerest theorist” of all time, this is the first academic work where he is being recognized as such. It gives a rich overview of the gender and sexual transgressions in his work and, to a lesser extent, in his life, with a strong focus on homosexuality and incest.

Training for Police in Kyrgyzstan

Recently, teachers of the police academy in Kyrgyzstan received training on the human rights of LGBTs, sex workers and drug users. This training was given by the AIDS Foundation East-West (AFEW), an organisation the COC is closely working with in the Bridging the Gaps project. Local partners of the COC were also involved in the training.

The government has decided to set up a state committee for parenthood re-evaluation to deal with legal issues concerning parenthood, co-parenting, multiple parents and surrogacy. “A porno book with a cover by Rex, Toby, or Tom of Finland was sure to outsell its rivals,” Ian Young wrote in “Out in Paperback: A Visual History of Gay Pulps” (Toronto 2007) about the paperback production in the 1960s and 1970s. Tom of Finland posthumously became the pet pornographer for liberal curators who wanted to exhibit something a bit more “naughty” occasionally.
