The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, currently presents “Bob Mizer & Tom of Finland,” the first American museum exhibition devoted to the art of Bob Mizer (1922–1992) and Touko Laaksonen, a.k.a. “Tom of Finland” (1920–1991), two of the most significant figures of twentieth century erotic art and forefathers of an emergent post-war gay culture.

Reijers World: Boys Getting Fucked Give the Best Blow Jobs!

It was early in the evening, and I was walking along the Amstel. I only had to climb the little stairs to reach the Company. It was already quite busy, and my friend Rob was behind the bar. I ordered a bottle of beer. Afterwards I descended into the dark room. At that time, someone came out of a cubicle.

Diver Tom Daley: ‘Right Now I’m Dating a Guy'

At the opening ceremony of the fourth Gay Games, in 1994 in New York, a video message from former Olympic diver Greg Louganis played an important part. After a gracious dive, he swims to the other side of the pool, and, among other things, says: “I’ll be there in a couple of days, back on the diving board joining other gay and lesbian athletes from around the world. [...] This is our chance to show ourselves and the world how strong we are as individuals and as a community. Welcome to the Games! It’s great to be out and proud.”

Letter from Brussels: What To Do With Croatia? What To Do With Europe?

Dear Neighbors to the North, The people of Croatia have spoken. They managed to constitutionally ban same-sex marriage with a referendum. A sad event. The news from this Eastern European country appeared in much of the international media, but - to my opinion - did not get the attention it deserved. And what nobody seems to have noticed was the response from “Europe.”

Intense Male Friendships Made King Willem II Liable to Blackmail

For the most part of the nineteenth century, advocates of male love fell back on references to famous homosexuals from the past. These overviews often mentioned viceroy-king Willem III. Quickly after taking office in the United Kingdom, it became a custom to ridicule him for his alleged homosexuality. Therefore, this aspect of his personality was known among intellectuals.

In 41 of the 53 countries that are a member of the Commonwealth, homosexual acts are liable to punishment. This becomes clear from the report Speaking Out by the Kaleidoscope Trust. Alec Baldwin’s Angry Slur With Far-Reaching Consequences

There are two sides to Alec Baldwin. On the one hand the actor is known for his explicit support of same-sex marriage and other gay and lesbian rights, but on the other hand he uses very gay unfriendly rhetoric when he is furious. In the summer of 2012, he referred to a British reporter as a “toxic little queen,” and another reporter he also labeled a “queen.”

Hawaii Expects Economic Boost from Same-Sex Marriage

One day after the people of Croatia, under pressure form a large catholic lobby, decided by referendum that marriage should be legally described as a union between a man and a woman, the state of Hawaii wedded six same-sex couples for the first time ever. This became possible after the American High Court had stipulated at the end of June that similar wording as used in Croatia in the Defence of Marriage Act (DOMA), signed by former president Clinton, is unconstitutional.

Naked Rowers for Charity

Some time ago, the website of Dutch newspaper “Algemeen Dagblad” headlined: “British Students Row Naked for Homosexuality.” The main reason for this must have been the opportunity to illustrate the headline with a video with nudity, as the text accompanying the header is totally meaningless: “Students of a British university in Coventry strikingly draw attention to homosexuality. The oarsmen organized a rowing trip and attracted a great deal of attention.

The Pleasures of Cruising

On January 14, Get a Room, a monthly event in Utrecht and Amsterdam, organizes a film and discussion night about cruising. Cruising seems inevitably connected to gay sexual culture. Men go out and cruise other men to have casual sex and quite often lots of it. It’s anonymous, it’s easy, it’s hot and always available, what more do you need?
