In a rather awkward way I was recently reminded of why we should be so bloody happy with our Pink Point and our habit of being openly gay, when my travel partner and I were holidaying in Oberwesel. This is a little town on the banks of the Rhine which is at its best when they put on the fireworks “Rhein im Flammen” (Rhine on Fire) as the climax of their annual wine festival. So that Saturday-night we were sitting on long tables together on a jam-packed boat waiting for the fireworks and having something to eat.
Rome is basking in the sun when I arrive at Central Station on Wednesday the 30th of September; I’m sweating profusely when I run into Mr. Leather Norway. We find out we’re staying at the same hotel, the only problem is that neither of us knows where it’s located. He’s brought a map, but our hotel is not on it so I produce my phone with Google Maps, and half an hour walk later we’re at our destination. The rest of the day I spent walking through the city.
On September 29, Cleveland, Ohio was named by the Federation of Gay Games (FGG) as the host of the 2014 Gay Games - the world’s largest sporting and cultural event for the LGBT community - which is anticipated to generate a local economic impact of more than $60 million. The FGG’s announcement concludes a year-long site selection process that culminated in formal presentations by bidding cities to the FGG Membership Assembly meeting in Cologne, Germany, site of the 2010 Gay Games. Boston and Washington, D.C. were also finalists.
Many complain about how little is happening in the Amsterdam gay scene over the last years. Well, the creativity and initiative which are needed to make a change in this situation seem to have been lacking in what was once the Gay Capital of Europe. Fortunately there are a few people doing their utmost to create new possibilities. Like club night producers Abiad & Malenka, who want to re-invent the DOK.
Our southern neighbors now suddenly have a problem with a passage from the autobiography of their present Minister of Culture, Frédéric Mitterrand. The man might be the nephew of the late French president François Mitterrand, in his biography he talks about his preference for the paid love of “young boys” in Thailand.
Porn is fantasy. The remarkable thing is, however, that many porn consumers behave like sheep as well when it comes to the direction of their fantasies. After the Iron Curtain fell, (so called) Eastern European boys became immensely popular, with their boy-next-door charisma, their natural looking bodies and their uncut dicks, which especially stirred the many American fans. Meanwhile we’re by now rather accustomed to these Eastern European lads and we’re ready for some new fantasy.

To make sure the wonderful scent of La Nuit de L’Homme by Yves Saint Laurent will stay with us for a long time, the line has been extended with a range of three products: an all-in-one shower gel, an aftershave balm and a deodorant stick. Products which perfume the body lightly, soothe it and nourish it.
