Has early April been for saying 'yes' to the royal engagement and the very first gay marriage, late April will be the time to say no: on April 25, referendum day. The day to say 'yes' or 'no' to the proposed section-council of Amsterdam's inner city. Will decisions concerning the inner city from then on be in the hands of a couple of inner city dwellers only, or will the center of the city remain public territory, belonging to us all? And since positive impulses for gay life by this new section-council are dubious, to say the least, your vote is imperative for our city's gay well being. So please, do go out and vote on April 25!

In celebration of the centenary of the birth of the French composer Henri Sauguet (1901 - 1989)
Next to his work as a composer, Henri Sauguet was also a music critic and for over sixty years recorded the vicissitudes of the French music world with passionate professional attention. Retiphism is a posh word for shoe sex. Rétif de la Bretonne was an eighteenth century French author, who, in his novels and autobiography, devoted lots of attention to his preference for ladies' shoes. He wasn't alone, since other celebrities like Goethe and Baudelaire also had a soft spot for it. Goethe asked his girlfriends to send him their shoes, so he could press them to his heart. William Rossi, author of a somewhat outdated standard work on shoe sex, thinks Goethe did several other things with those shoes. Footgear is popular as a fetish. Women build up entire collections, the most famous one belonging to Imelda Marcos. According to Rossi's vulgarized version of Freud men are supposed to dream of feet as genitals sliding into shoes, in their turn symbolizing the vagina.
Tuesday, April 10. An important day for Johan Paulik fans. Touring Europe, eight cities in eight days, Johan also showered his signature on his admirers in bookstore Vrolijk and The Bronx.
