With the emergence of the HIV epidemic a lot of research into sexual behaviour of homosexual men was restricted to risk behaviour. Therefore other aspects, like sexual desires, were strongly ignored. To make a change the Institute for Psycho Social Research (i-spr) has started a new online study. This inquiry, executed by the University of Utrecht and the Health Department of the city of Amsterdam, is intended for men who have sex with other men.

The inquiry consists of a questionnaire which is online available at the internet. Complete anonymity is guaranteed. The scientific part of this research is innovative: among others it’s about the question how sexual desires are coming out and what kind of influence they have on sexual behavior, both in a general perspective as with respect to STDs and HIV. Broaching these subjects, which haven’t been researched in this country yet, this study might lead to the gaining of new insights into the sexuality of men who’re having sex with other men. The final results of this research will be send to the participants if they wish to receive them.

So far thousands of men in France and the Netherlands have participated in the online inquiry. The researchers are hoping you will want to participate in the Dutch part of it. Those who want to participate can use one of the banners on www.gayamsterdam.com or go directly to the website of the enquete, www.ii-psr and the section “online vragenlijsten.” The more men participating, the more representative this study will be.

This study is subsidized by the Dutch Aids Foundation, with an additional contribution of i-spr.
