Protocol to tackle gay discrimination presented in The Hague

|
| | | | by Editorial Staff, in General , posted 07 February 2010 | On Monday the 23rd of November Bert van Alphen, alderman for Wellbeing, Public Health and Emancipation accepted the ‘Protocol aanpak homodiscriminatie’ (Protocol to tackle gay discrimination), presented to him by director Gert-Jan Ankoné of the Bureau Discriminatiezaken (Bureau for Cases of Discrimination). COC Haaglanden, Bureau Discriminatiezaken, the police and the municipality developed the protocol.
At the end of 2008 Bureau Discriminatiezaken Hollands Midden and Haaglanden, Police department Haaglanden, the municipality of The Hague and COC Haaglanden signed a covenant in which they promised to pay more attention to gay discrimination cases.
Developing a protocol for professionals is part of this approach. It’s also part of the vision described in the city’s gay emancipation paper Gewoon Anders (Just Different) that proclaimed it’s target that gays should be able to be proudly visible in The Hague.
|
The protocol is to help professionals as it offers them information they can use when confronted with acts of gay discrimination.
Central in this approach are tools to tackle these acts directly and effectively. The protocol offers information to help identify gay discrimination, especially when it’s just one aspect of a situation - and a concrete overview of actions that can be taken.
The protocol is not jus meant as a manual, but also as a way to inform people on each other’s responsibility and role in tackling gay discrimination.
