Portfolio - Boys Uncovered

Given the large amount of photo books published each year, it’s obvious there’s a lot of rubbish available. Each month we try to sift the wheat from the chaff, which is a risky business because there is no accounting for tastes. Personally I’m rather fed up with all those slick Bel Ami kids with overdone make-up and striking an attitude. These youngster are completely interchangeable. Therefore it was a pleasure to peruse “Boys Uncovered,” by Lindsay Lozon, a Canadian photographer of international renown which is completely justified by the quality of his photographs.
“Boys Uncovered” is a delicious book. Lozon also photographed many international celebrities, such as Celin Dion, but in this book he has kept his mind on the male species only. All photographs are in black-and-white and excellent black-and-white pictures are much more enjoyable than color photographs of low quality, of which we see too many these days.
The boys Lozon uncovered are in their twenties and thirties and of the kind you might meet on the streets but never in a gay bar. They are very relaxed in front of the camera and don’t strike the irritating pose of “Look At Me.” Lozon’s fully-developed males are sometimes captured nude, and sometimes only covered by exciting white briefs. These photographs ooze with eroticism. Exciting, natural, defiant and bold... these are the qualities of Lindsay Lozon’s grown-up boys.
