Belgian’s national railway carrier NMBS wants to install gender-neutral toilets on all Belgian train stations. At least one toilet should also be available outside office hours.
According to various newspapers, NMBS is currently working on a toilet plan, with the broad lines ready been proposed to the House of Parliament by Minister of Mobility François Bellot (MR).
The sanitary facilities in the large stations, for instance, will be "under the supervision of a physical person". In the medium-sized stations there will be "(semi) automated facilities". To cover the costs, the toilets will incur a charge. One or two toilets should be open 24/7.
"We want the toilets to be accessible to everyone. There will be gender-neutral toilets available, and we will provide equipment for nursing babies in the ladies' and men's toilets,” says NMBS spokesperson Dimitri Temmerman.
