This year, the Burgemeester Dales Award is awarded to Ben Loth of Amnesty International Nijmegen.
COC Nijmegen created the Burgemeester Dales Award in 1996 for it's 25the anniversary. The prize is awarded in conjunction with the annual Burgemeester Dales Lecture, which was given in the Nijmegen town hall by Gerdi Verbeet, former chairwomen of Dutch parliament and now President of the ‘Comité 4 en 5 Mei’.
The Burgemeester Dales Award, consisting of a certificate and 500 Euro, is intended to support people and organizations that are committed to the emancipation of minorities, equal treatment of disadvantaged groups or the fight against discrimination.
The jury chose Ben Loth because of his commitment to Amnesty International Nijmegen. For years, he has worked hard to expose the oppression of fellow people, in the broadest sense of the word. Last year, Ben Loth stood out as LGBTI coordinator, among other things because of his commitment to the Rainbow Dialogue.
