Welcome Back Amistad Hotel

As one of the last remaining gay (friendly) hotels in Amsterdam for the entire GLBT community and friends, the Amistad Hotel was getting on. It was high time for a facelift, and that is exactly what happened. After a nine-month renovation period, the Amistad Hotel reopened its doors for its first guests just before the Pride.

During the Amsterdam Pride, the hotel was completely booked with a mix of GLBT people. Both new and returning guests colored the hotel pink. The Amistad keeps up with the times, which also means that its employees welcome anyone who is gay or gay friendly. As in real life, it is a mix of women and men with their own preferences.

As many hotels in Amsterdam, the Amistad Hotel also changed owners. Klaas Stoter, the new owner since December 2015, insists on the importance of a place in Amsterdam where the entire GLBT community can feel welcome. And not only that, he also had the courage to start this renovation in order to offer guests a comfortable and modern stay.

Breakfast, seen by many guests as the highlight of their stay, will continue to be served at the large family table, where it is easy to get to know the fellow hotel guests, as well as the Amistad team.

Someone who was there from the very beginning is Mike, who has been working at the Amistad since 2002 and has made it into the hotel it is today.

Kerkstraat 42 has a long gay history. Before the turn of the century, it served as the well-known Cosmo Bar with the West End Hotel above it. The rooms all had a shower and toilet in the hallway.

The building was sold in 2000 to see its first major renovation. The Cosmo Bar disappeared and the entire building was transformed into the Amistad Hotel. It gradually became a real hotel over the following years, with friendliness and service of paramount importance, all in a friendly, non-formal atmosphere.

The Amistad now offers a choice of double or single rooms, all with private bathrooms. For guests who prefer more space and luxury, the Amistad has a B&B (Bed & Breakfast 62), with a spacious luxury room and a luxury studio, with the Amistad hotel as the central point.
