Student Life: Great Summer Experiences

In recent months, A.S.V.Gay had the pleasure of having a full and great schedule. We were bestowed the great honour to speak at the Remembrance Day commemoration at the Homomonument. For the first time in the history of our association, we travelled to Manchester by plane.

Together with our sister associations from Utrecht, Tilburg, Groningen, Enschede, Delft and Nijmegen, we had a very nice and sunny weekend in the east of the Netherlands.

However, the best week of the year is yet to come - the Pride week!

In Manchester, with a group of approximately forty people, we enjoyed very nice weather and an even nicer city. We played games, visited museums and drank many a pint in the Manchester Gay Village. It was a fantastic weekend!

Several A.S.V.Gay committees are organizing some great events for Pride. We will start on Friday, July 27 with the sex pub quiz, which will focus on knowledge about consent, safe sex and other sex-related issues. It is the best way to combine serious matters with a fun evening.

A symposium will be held in CREA on Tuesday, July 31. Access will be free for members, for other people who are not students or alumni, the entry fee will be five euros.

On Thursday, August 2, the A.S.V.Gay Pride party will be held at Akhnaton, and on Friday, August 3, people can follow a queer tango workshop, organized by one of our members. The most beautiful week of the year will come to a close with the canal parade, where A.S.V.Gay again managed a spot.

So, watch us from the streets, or quickly sign up for a place on our boat! We sail under the theme “Everyday Heroes,” where we want to draw attention to the “ordinary” people who are heroic by being true to themselves. We want to put our own members in the spotlight, as the student generation has an exemplary function for the younger generation, for whom it is extremely important to have positive role models.

Curious about becoming a member of A.S.V.Gay? From the end of August until the end of September we will organize get-togethers in our only local, the Amstel Fifty Four bar. Join us there! See our Facebook page or our website asvgay.nl for more information.
