Jurandy Lucas (creative producer of Backdoor Amsterdam) and Dave Koster (photographer) report monthly on GLBTQIA+ events in Amsterdam and elsewhere in the country. In the party month December, they visited the H.I.M. Party, the Now&Wow Fest, Restaurant BurlesQue and the opening of Club YOLO.

Now en Wow

H.I.M. Party

Him at AirThe Festive Month of December! The second edition of H.I.M. Amsterdam took place in Club AIR. Tom Swerts’ H.I.M. is an extremely popular gay party in Antwerp. It was nice to be back in the building where the legendary Club iT was once located.

The sudden blizzard of that day proved no obstacle for the die-hard club boys and other H.I.M. lovers. We had a great time, with great music throughout the night. Our ulterior motive was DJ Phil Romano, who stole the show with his performance.

Now & Wow Fest

Now & Wow

For weeks, we had been looking forward to Ted Langenbach and Pietra Ligura’s show-piece. On Saturday, December 16, the tenth edition of Now & Wow X Fest took place in Rotterdam’s Maassilo. Its theme was “Superparadise.” Once inside this legendary night temple, we felt completely at home.

The décor was Harley Davidson meets Disco Queens, and the atmosphere was great.

With a good mix of straight, gay and open-minded under one roof, Now & Wow is a Mecca for those who love the notion of “everything is possible and everything is allowed.” How cool is that? It was totally Now & completely Wow!

Restaurant BurlesQue

Reguliersdwarsstraat on the move! After nine months of renovations, Restaurant BurlesQue finally opened its doors on the first of December. We wanted to have a look at this restaurant at the old La Margarita location. Is it just a restaurant? Hell no!

On Friday night, we witnessed a delicious Dinner Show: with theater and humor, and a top-class singing & dancing spectacle.

And all that in between the surprising, delicious cocktails and dishes. The service was friendly, subtle and professional. BurlesQue truly is an asset to the Reguliersdwarsstraat and one that was badly needed. We will certainly go back!

Club YOLO - You Live Only Once

On December 29, 2017, we visited Curtain Goes YOLO, the Opening Party of Club YOLO, Valy Pintiuc and Jorge Pessanha’s new club. After their departure earlier this year from Amstel Fifty-Four, it has certainly become much quieter on the Amstel.

But they are back in full GLBT swing. This nightclub is completely remodelled, and you will not see any remnants of the former YOU II or Club Roque. The atmosphere was great, with DJ & MC DiVine and international guest DJ Luiggi (WE Party).

The bar staff was extremely friendly and efficient. The most important thing was the great mix of gay, straight, casual, chic, freaky, sexy and funky, making this opening party a success. Congratulations Valy and Jorge!
