Lockerroom, “a new niche party where young fetish people eager to dance to a tougher style of music will meet and play,” according to Anne Rodermond, was launched in Club Church February 10th, first upcoming edition is April 14.
Rodermond, manager at Church, was responsible late last year for bringing the Berlin underground party sensation “Pornceptual” to this club. That party was a big hit and quickly sold out, “fitting the club like a rubber glove” and was one of the inspirations for this new concept, Lockerroom.
“A group of techno freaks who are also into the fetish scene and more experimental-type parties came to me after ‘Pornceptual’ last year with a plan to start a fetish techno party in Amsterdam. A lot of Amsterdammers go to Berlin for ‘Pornceptual’ and other pop-up techno parties.
This new generation is just as kinky as the older guys, but don’t necessarily have the money to buy gear at Mister B or RoB. So it’s more DIY fetish stuff, which can lead to a lot of new and inspiring looks.”
In addition, Rodermond sees a new wave of gender fluid youth, not so hung up on the old gender norms and more willing to experiment with their gender and sexuality. “Being Church, we will pull a mainly male gay audience, but we wanted to make this party explicitly open to all gender and sexuality variations and not have to police people’s gender at the door. Younger people in any case often don’t fit into neat boxes and strict gender identifications are breaking down.”
New to Church will be The Mountain, who will DJ and VJ on the night. The Mountain is resident DJ at parties in Ruigoord and Vrankrijk, as well as being a well-known figure in the Berlin underground techno scene.
In addition to the experimental dark tunes, there will be obscure fetish performances and a “walk on the dark side.” “Church has a highly sexual atmosphere, which encourages people to get undressed and get physical. There will be a discount at the door for people who come naked to the party to let them know we appreciate nudity and the sense of freedom that brings to the club. We want a dance party but we also want to stay close to our fetish identity, so of course the darkrooms will remain open.”
