Out & About: We do like a party!

by Jurandy Lucas in Nightlife & Reports , 02 september 2017

We do like a party! Jurandy Lucas (Creative Producer of Backdoor® Amsterdam) and Dave Koster (photographer) will regularly report on GLBT parties and other events in and outside of Amsterdam. This month, in the context of Amsterdam Pride 2017: Drag Olympics, Canal Parade, Bear-Necessity, and Backdoor®.

Drag Olympics

August 4, 2017, Homomonument. Our Amsterdam Pride weekend began on the Homomonument with the thirteenth edition of the Drag Olympics. On Friday August 4, the best of all drag athletes from all over the world did their very best for the coveted Olympic Gold Medal.

This colorful event proved very popular, and the public enthusiastically supported the athletes. How we enjoyed the hilarious presentation of this high-heeled newcomer, Sipke Jan Bousema a.k.a. Sally Salope. She was great. A new drag star is born!

Canal Parade

August 5, 2017, Prinsengracht, Amsterdam. On Saturday, we boarded the pimped “Gaywatch” boat at the quayside of Westermarkt in anticipation of a wonderful Canal Parade.

I am so proud that - with the rest of Amsterdam - I was part of this amazing event. Together, we celebrate the diversity of anyone who wants to identify with the GLBT+ family.

We captured a holistic portrayal of mankind, and everyone accepted everyone. Isn’t that great? Stand up - or sail - for who you are! One Love!

Bear-Necessity

August 5, 2017, Panama, Amsterdam. On that Saturday, we went to the popular Bear-Necessity party in Club Panama. BN has been a household name for years in the Amsterdam scene.

The bears and their “chasers” (lovers of) seek each other out at this party. Although I don’t have any chest hair, I felt completely welcome and certainly at ease among these big bears.

The atmosphere was very relaxed and DJ’s Thomas M and residents Rado & Sergio Cardoso’s music was sublime! We stayed on the dance floor all night. I will certainly be there next time.

Backdoor - Pre-Party to Amsterdam Pride

Saturday, July 22, Akhnaton, Amsterdam. Gay & Open-minded party Backdoor is organised by stylist Huub Lammens and creative producer Jurandy Lucas. Backdoor stands for great music, awesome people, art and fashion, live acts and fun. Lots of fun.

On July 22, this party was organized in Club Akhnaton in Amsterdam for the seventeenth time. The theme was Backdoor meets Flikker: Pre-Party to Amsterdam Pride. Would you also like to experience a Backdoor party? Jolt down the two next editions of Backdoor in your diary & planner.

These will take place on Saturday, September 9 (Summer Closing Party, Akhnaton, Amsterdam) and Friday, September 22 (Opening Party Rotterdam Pride, venue De Unie, Rotterdam).  www.facebook.com/backdoorteadance.
