The nostalgic ones among us can truly indulge themselves on July 29, when a special homage to Abraham Tuschinski’s famous Soirée Dansant & Chantant will take place at the beloved and luxuriously decorated room on the first floor of Tushinski’s film palace.
It will be a tribute to the many variety artists and musicians of the 1920s and 1930s. The programme features songs from the repertoire of Louis Davids, Fien de la Mar, Jean-Louis Pisuisse, Margie Morris, Stella Fontaine, The Ramblers, Jack Smith, Tholen & Van Lier, the Rudolf Nelson Revue, Josephine Baker, Maurice Chevalier, Edith Piaf, and Zarah Leander.
The première of the variety theatre performance “Cabaret La Gaîté” in the Tuschinski VIP room coincides with the first day of Pride Amsterdam 2017. At that date, it was exactly seventy-two years ago that in 1945 Tuschinski reopened, and the name Tivoli was removed from the façade.
Against this backdrop, Blond & Blauw Productions once again present a special tribute night, in which a wide range of artists, including artists from the GLBTQ community, will follow in the footsteps of performers in the former variety theatre. Led by singer and performer La Sirène, they will take the audience on a musical trip through time, inspired by the legendary Cabaret La Gaîté of the 1920s and 1930s.
Besides La Sirène, Gerrie van der Klei, Dick Rienstra, Marlene ExtraLarge, Ludique!, and Victoria False will be responsible for the variety, while Eva Novakova, Paul van der Maat, and Fay Loren will take care of the “Soirée Dansant.” In the capacity of cabaret artists, Eric Lensink and Robert Kloppenburg will also perform. Luna Lunettes and Ted McKoy will constitute the entr’acte. The musical lead is in the hands of Maestro’s Jan Robijns and Paul Tijink, and the evening is hosted by Michael Helmerhorst, assisted by connoisseur Henk van Gelder.
