LGBTI Hostile Jehovah's Witnesses Video

COC Netherlands calls on the Jehovah's Witnesses organisation to remove an LGBTI hostile video from their website, and have a conversation with the gay interest group.

In part 2 of the video series Think about Lot's wife, the father of a Jehovah's Witnesses family disapproves of his daughter's colleague, who has two lesbian mothers: “This is what Anne is associating with now.” In another scenes in the video, they continue to speak of homosexuality disapprovingly.

The COC is also asking the Jehovah's Witnesses to remove a ‘work sheet’ for children from their website. In the sheet, homosexuality is compared to a ‘tendency for anger’.

According to the COC, the video and the worksheet hinder a safe climate for LGBTIs within the community of Jehovah's Witnesses. The COC was approached by several Christian LGBTIs who feel hurt by the video.

It is the second time in a relatively short time that an LGBTI-unfriendly video is placed on the website of the Jehovah's Witnesses. This was also the case last year, when it concerned a video specifically meant for children. Last year as well, the COC and the LKP, the umbrella organisation of Christian LGBTIs, requested the removal of the video and a conversation with the Christian denomination. Both were refused by the Jehovah's Witnesses.
