After a busy Christmas period seeing family and friends, the members of A.S.V.Gay will be united in one of the greatest cities of our southern neighbor country, Antwerp. Traditionally, the travel committee organizes a trip around Christmas. If the trip is as fun as it normally is, the members can again fall back on mucky but fun anecdotes for weeks.
Who will kiss under the mistletoe this year? Which speciality beer lover will lose the key to the hostel this time? Which ho-ho-homo will give the most presents?
Besides all the fun, the travel committee has to make sure that we also get some exposure to culture. Where at night, we roam the city, at day time we will be good boys and girls and follow our tour guide. In April/May we will organize a trip to a country that is a bit further away than our southern neighbors. Everyone is already curious about what the committee has in store. How long will the trip be? When do we leave, and especially WHERE to? These are all questions the travel committee will soon have an answer to.
But besides these trips, various other committees are also organizing numerous other activities. A.S.V.Gay being traditional also organizes some recurring activities. Mid-December, there was the Christmas dinner. For fifteen euros, the members enjoyed a delicious three-course dinner in a romantic setting. Think of plastic soup bowls, a builders radio and LED Christmas tree lights bought at Action because fire was forbidden in the picturesque wooden chalet. After the appetizer (spinach soup) teeth were as green as the trees on the lovely, but ugly Christmas sweaters. The last course saw green teeth in the home-made desserts. During dinner, people were chatting pleasantly. The members’ Christmas plans were discussed, good intentions were already thrown overboard or questioned, and the unlimited supply of drinks slowly reduced. The members were entertained with performances by the activities committee itself, a dating show in which one of the committee members was roasted, and the warm Christmas tunes of our very own singing group.
The party and the traditional Done-With-The-Year get-together were the cherries on the cake. The DJ made sure we would dance away those Christmas diner calories. At the Done-With-The-Year get-together we looked back on 2016. For some a good year, for others not so good.
Besides all the activities that are organized by the committees, members now also get the opportunity to share their ideas at their own initiative. We now have our very own and new games society, Olijf, and a theater group called the Drama Queens. The theater group is planning to perform a great play at the end of the financial year, led by our own long-haired Shakespeare.
A.S.V.Gay can look back on a very good year. Committee 6 has become Committee 7 and together with the members they will do their very best to make next year great. We are already looking forward to the New Year’s reception and the skating activity. It remains to be seen how well our members can balance the ice and whether or not they need a chair to assist them. If winter is that much fun, how great will the rest of the year be? But let’s celebrate the new year for now. Cheers, 2017!
