A recently held Australian study shows that children with gay or lesbian parents are physically and emotionally healthier and have a better relationship with their parents than children with heterosexual parents. The study was conducted by the University of Melbourne.

The study shows that children in the age group 5 to 17 score higher in the category general health and emotional family bonding in comparison with Australian children from all other forms of family. The researchers also looked at the psychological health of children, but there were no noticeable differences between children with heterosexual parents and those with gay or lesbian parents.

The study also shows that three quarters of the children with gay or lesbian parents do not have problems at school because they have two mothers or two fathers. The study supports earlier studies that showed that children with homosexual parents are doing just as well as children with straight parents.

American research showed that children with gay or lesbian parents get to spend more quality time with their parents than children from heterosexual couples. The research was published in Demography and conducted in the American Time Use Survey.

In a ten year period between 2003 and 2013 they questioned over 45,000 people. The first thing the survey revealed was that women, irrespective of their sexual preference, and men in a gay relationship with another man, spend more time with their children than male-female couples.

This would result in at least one hour more quality time for children with gay or lesbian parents than children with straight parents. The average a straight couple spends with their child is 3.5 hours per day. For gay and lesbian parents, this is 4.5 hours per day.

In the United States, much research has been done on the well-being of children with gay or lesbian parents, particularly on lesbian parenthood.
