PatrickGormanJr.com in association with Getto Amsterdam presents the exposition “Rent Boys and Red Light Girls: the Fairy Tale Collection,” inspired by Amsterdam’s Red Light District.
The artist about his exposition: “The idea to tell the story of Amsterdam’s Red Light District through the vision of a fairy tale came to me when I first walked through the famous canals on a late October evening. I felt like I had just been transported to a place filled with wonder and madness. To me the Red Light District is very much part of the heart that beats within Amsterdam.
With its bright neon signs and busy side streets it’s easy to get lost in the crowds of people looking at the windows filled with beautiful girls all vying for their attention.”
“Like a fairy tale there is an old magic feel to the place. Each street has its own story to tell and if you listen hard enough you can almost hear the buildings sing. It’s light and dark, beautiful and ugly all at the same time, just like a fairy tale.”
“Each of the ten pictures starts life as a pen and ink A3 drawing. To showcase my collection and to take full advantage of the amazing space that is the Getto, all pictures are displayed as large 60x90 canvas prints.”
The official opening and meet and greet the artist is on
Thursday 6 December between 22:00-00:00 hrs.
The exhibition will run till Sunday the 3rd of February.
